Notes:

Memorial Day
I Corinthians 11:17-31

 Part One:  The Problem—11:17-22

1. Pride and self-righteousness...the Supper was supposed to be about humility and grace.
2. Cliques...the Supper was supposed to be about unity and commonality.
3. Self-centeredness...the Supper was supposed to be about coming together as one family under God.

 Part Two:  The Solution—11:27-31

1. Participate in the Supper in a worthy manner.  What is unworthily?  Not honoring God and taking it for the wrong reasons.
2. Examine self and confess sins.

Part Three:  The Lord’s Supper—11:23-26

1. One bread and one cup symbolizing one family.
2. The bread symbolizes the  broken body and the cup is the shed blood.  It is a “new” covenant of grace.
3. It is taken in remembrance and anticipation.

 Time of Personal Examination

 1. I realize I am a sinner, I mess up continually, and I need God’s forgiveness and grace.

Sins of Commission-Things I should not have done

Sins of Omission-Things I should have done

2.  I realize I am not in this alone, but I am a    member of God’s family, the church.
