Position and Purpose
The Preschool Classroom Volunteer (first service) will serve the mission of the Preschool Ministry by directly connecting with preschoolers and their families on a weekly basis. Families are dropping off their most prize possession – sometimes for the first time – with you! Your smile, warmth and encouragement will make the parents feel comfortable and help the preschooler learn that church is a fun, safe and happy place to learn about Jesus!

Tasks:
The Preschool Volunteer (first service) will help accomplish this through:

  1. Greeting each family and child as they enter the classroom.
  2. Make sure that each child has a security tag sticker attached to their clothing.
  3. Gather, label and collect any items the parent is leaving in the classroom and place in a cubby. Also ask if the parent has any special instructions or if the child has any allergies we need to be aware of.
  4. Read through the lesson ahead of time to know what will be taught and how to encourage deeper learning of the lesson from large group time during the classroom time (3’s, 4’s and K).
  5. Assist children in making a craft (all supplies provided) that reinforces the lesson (3’s, 4’s and K).
  6. Bring children to the large group room for worship and Bible story time (3’s, 4’s, K).
  7. At pickup time, take the pickup tag from the parent, match it to the child’s tag and remove the child’s tag before opening the door to give the child to their parent with all of their things/craft/Bible story paper and card.

Expectations of volunteer:

  1. Volunteers are expected to be in the classroom by 9:20 a.m. and have prepared in advance anything needed for the day’s lessons.
  2. Leaders need to communicate far in advance when they are not able to fulfill their duties.
  3. Regularly worship at Westport Road Baptist Church on Sunday mornings.
  4. Represent Christ at all times regardless if in a serving role at church. This includes on social media and in their personal lives.
  5. Adherence with established WRBC policies and procedures.

Skills:
Preschool Classroom Volunteers (1st service) most importantly should have a heart to love and nurture young children as they are being taught about Jesus’ love. They will be able to lead a class of preschoolers and maintain a safe and orderly environment, while having fun learning about Jesus.

Schedule
The Preschool Classroom Volunteer (1st service) will serve on a weekly basis. If you need to be out for any reason, please call, email or text Mary Adams (502-445-3951 or mary@mywrbc.org) as soon as you know so a sub can be secured.

Screening:
Volunteers are subject to a criminal background check and a yearly Safe Child training class.
