Ministry Area: MOPS Ministry (Preschool Ministry)
Expected Hours: 3.5 hours/once a month
Direct Reports: MOPS COORDINATOR (also, Mary Adams)
Commitment Length: As available one Friday a month from September – May
Position and Purpose
The MOPS Volunteer will serve the mission of the Preschool Ministry by directly connecting with preschoolers and their Moms on a monthly basis. Mother’s, many non-church members, are dropping off their most prize possession – sometimes for the first time – with you! Your smile, warmth and encouragement will make the parents feel comfortable and help the preschooler learn that church is a fun, safe and happy place to learn about Jesus!
Tasks:
The MOPS will help accomplish this through:
- Greeting each Mom and child as they enter the classroom.
- Make sure that each child has a security tag sticker attached to their clothing.
- Gather, label and collect any items the mom is leaving in the classroom and place in a cubby. Also ask if the child has any special instructions or if the child has any allergies we need to be aware of.
- Provide for all children in your care with any needs they may have and strive to maintain a safe, friendly environment for each child.
- At pickup time, ensure that each child leaves with their mom and that all belongings are returned to the mom.
- Pick up the classroom, wipe off tables, take garbage out of the classroom and place in the large black cans at the end of the preschool hall by the adult restroom.
Expectations of volunteer:
- Volunteers are expected to be in the classroom by 9 a.m.
- Leaders need to communicate far in advance when they are not able to fulfill their duties.
- Represent Christ at all times regardless if in a serving role at church. This includes on social media and in their personal lives.
- Adherence with established WRBC policies and procedures.
Skills:
MOPS volunteers most importantly should have a heart to love and nurture young children as they are being taught about Jesus’ love. They will be able to lead a class of young children and maintain a safe and orderly environment, while having fun learning about Jesus.
