Ministry Area: Children The Thirty
Commitment Length: Weekly

Expected Weekly Hours:     1 ½ hours/week

Position and Purpose
The 4th and 5th grade small group leaders will serve the mission through engaging the children’s hearts and minds in Biblical learning. For most children, this is the prime age for challenging what they have been taught and making their faith their own not their parents. Seeing God’s Word as active and alive sets the stage for growth. This age is better able to comprehend the abstract and work through how the Bible relates to them personally.

Tasks:
The 4th and 5th grade small group leaders will help accomplish this through:

  1. Studying the lesson to engage the children.
  2. Teach the object lesson or do an activity to introduce or reinforce the lesson – bring supplies or notify First Service Coordinator by Monday before the Sunday needed.
  3. Encourage children to share prayer requests and pray together.
  4. Work with Children’s Minister to plan curriculum a quarter in advance.
  5. Send birthday, get well, missing you, and glad you visited cards.
  6. Have at least one social activity with your group during the year.

Skills:

  1. Ability to connect with children on their level.
  2. Knowledgeable about games, TV and movies that kids are playing, watching and exposed to at school.
  3. Ability to engage a large group and “control the crowd” in a positive way (rather than negative calling out, always saying “no” and “don’t”).

Screening:
Volunteers are subject to a criminal and child abuse background check.
